Why Deadpool (And Movies Like It) Are Not Worth Seeing

As Christians we face a dilemma when going to the movies especially when the movie we are considering watching is rated "R". Recently Marvel's Deadpool hit the big screen and it has grossed over $300 million, clearly it was a success in the movie world.

When this movie was about to come out, a movie that is based off of comic books, the question was asked among my own circle of friends if anyone was going to go see it. I have several comic book loving friends and we normally go see Marvel and DC movies together. I was pleased when the question was immediately answered with a chorus of "No"s.

I kept telling people I wouldn't touch the film with a 100 foot pole!

To me our day and age is sad, our movies are very weak with terrible plots and harsh and crude humor. Deadpool is a crude comedian in his comic books, but hardly the man that is depicted in the movie, considering the film got a so called hard R rating. Has our society declined so much that our favorite comic book characters are put into hard R films? And the worst part about it is, Deadpool is like the wolf in sheep's cloth, it is disguised to make you think it is just another superhero movie and then BAM you are hit with the reality that our society thinks it necessary to fill comedy films with sex scenes, the objectification of women and men, nudity, cursing, and in Deadpool's case graphic violence.

Deadpool is the epitome of the glorification of sin that we see in the film and TV industries today. It is not worth your money, none of it is, whether it be Deadpool or another film like it. Christians too quickly forget that there is a battle going on right now for our souls and the things we choose to watch are involved in that very battle. It will effect you spiritually! Don't believe the lie that says otherwise.

I'm going to leave you with a quote from sadly a rated "R" film, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." - The Usual Suspects. Dwell on that quote for a moment and then try and justify yourself watching a film such as Deadpool that is filled with acts of sin seen as the norm, wouldn't the devil's perfect plan be to make Christians think that watching sin is different from committing sin?
